Eli is a very personable fellow who will stand like a gentleman on the crossties all day for grooming and snuggles. He’s excellent for the vet and farrier and loads well too. Eli is well schooled in all three gaits, and has his own motor without being too forward. He goes out in a halter and clip reins or in a basic snaffle. He goes English or Western and does basic lateral work. Eli has mild navicular changes that are well managed with bar shoes (fronts only). He should not jump due to this reason. Eli is currently on Equioxx daily and seems comfortable and happy to have a job.
Eli is best suited for an intermediate rider or a rider with a trainer, given a couple of quirks: Eli can get barn sour and herdmate sour, both in hand and under saddle, if not proactively managed. He can be a little testy until he gets to know you. At our farm, he has been easy to handle and the only other issue we have encountered is hacking him solo in the field. He is perfect hacking out with a buddy and has been a gentleman in the arena.
He should be turned out with other geldings only, and benefits from 24/7 turnout with a shed.
