Amigo arrived with two other minis, his mom Silkie and brother Spirit. Although those two are a bonded pair, Amigo can be adopted separately. He was much loved by his previous owner, but she could not continue to care for all three of them. He was castrated here at NEER.
Amigo arrived with a history of laminitis. Radiographs taken of his front feet by our veterinarians showed significant rotation and his prognosis was considered guarded. But since arriving, he has received careful management and farrier care. We are happy to report that he has already had multiple trims, is now off Bute, and appears comfortable and bright. He will need to be adopted into a home who are knowledgeable in managing horses with laminitis.
All three of the minis had lived most of their lives on the same property, so the transition to a new environment has been a big change. Amigo has surpassed all expectation in that regard, though! He is super smart and learning ground manners quickly. He is the first to greet you at the fence line and has made quite the impression with the volunteers with his cheeky, mischievous personality.
