BEN & RHETT
Ben and Rhett are an amazing addition to our farm. They both have so much personality. Ben has a high pitch whinny when you walk out the back door. He also has an adorable mewing sounds when out with him in the field. They both love a great scratch and cuddle! Last spring we brought them to the beach. Ben and Rhett loved literally jumping the waves and being in the water. Rolling in beach sand is THE best! Rhett looks like the truest Surfer Dude at the beach. We ARE so lucky that we were chosen to be their Family! I actually knew the owners that were the stallion Ben’s mom was bred with. The humans have passed away. I believe they directed me to them!!
Thank YOU a million times over!

REX
It had always been a dream of mine to own a horse. I was looking online and saw a photo of Rex through the NEER North website. I don’t know why but I sat and cried over this photo and decided to apply. It was as if I knew him my entire life, we just had a connection that I can’t explain.
Rex was pushy in the beginning and had to learn to be lunged without taking off, that took a little bit to break but he eventually learned. He does spook from things but we just have to reassure him that he is fine. He does not like storms but who really does. Rex now enjoys life with four other horses on our 44 acre far. I can’t thank NEER North and Mary enough for giving me a chance with my boy Rex!

CHANNING
I contacted NEER in the early fall about adopting Channing. I suspected my 34 yr old thoroughbred might not make it through the winter and I wanted to keep the “herd” size at three. Channing bonded strongly and quickly to the horse and initially showed little interest in the donkeys.
However, as I had hoped, he stepped up nicely into the leadership position when my horse passed. The girls are somewhat ambivalent about his enthusiasm, but they are all keeping each other (and me) entertained through these long winter months. I can hardly wait for spring when I can start working with him more. He is eager to learn and has a huge personality. And despite being around equine for the past 60 years, he is teaching me new things about how a hinny is neither horse nor donkey but their own very special thing!

SPANKY
The connection between people and horses is a hard one to describe. It is a bond unlike any other. There is a special level of trust, companionship and partnership that unless you’ve experienced it – you may not understand. Once you’ve had that equine connection – you understand it, you see it, it’s in you. Horse people understand. I saw it with Spanky. I saw Spanky’s sweet gentle nature, and kind eyes, his soft gentleman demeanor with quiet understandings.
We are so grateful to have the opportunity to welcome Spanky into our home for his retirement. Another key factor was we trusted in NEER North and their adoption process and appreciated the rigor to ensure Spanky found a good home.

MIRABELLE
“I knew instantly she was the one for me. She just had the sweetest face and the most loving eyes.”
Kaleigh waited almost a year for Mirabelle to finish rehab before taking her home. She had trained several horses before and knew the two of them had a stretch of hard work ahead. Just getting used to being ridden amid the daily commotion of a big barn with other horses in the ring “was a big issue we had to overcome together,” says Kaleigh, who suffered a back injury after Mirabelle got spooked one day. After that, the two went back to basics—ground work, lunging, liberty, and pole work—connecting as a team and gaining confidence in each other.
The work paid off. “When I got back on her three months ago, everything seemed to just click,” Kaleigh says. At a recent, four-day show, she proudly reports, “We went into a warm-up ring with twenty or more horses, and Mirabelle didn’t bat an eye. She was ready! We placed first in more than half of our classes that day, and second or third in others.”
Kaleigh says she would definitely recommend adopting from NEER. “I still get texts checking in on how Mirabelle and I are doing and appreciate it every time. They truly care about all of their horses even after they find homes. And Mirabelle makes me smile every time we ride and I see her loving life.”

DZIKI (DEE)
I adopted Dziki (Dee) from NEER North almost two years. She moved here to [our farm] in Maine and we’ve had an amazing time learning about each other. She has done wonders for my confidence and she has taught me a lot. We enjoy doing liberty together and pleasure rides around the arena. She loves spending time with her sister Mary and her best friend Spirit. I really truly enjoy the honor I get to adopt her. Thank you!
