Current assessment and status: Extremely smart but will test-needs an experienced owner!
Under treatment for ulcers and lyme disease.
Zella is a big-bodied 2008 Thoroughbred mare, about 16.2 hh. She is extremely smart, and once you get to know her, has a sense of humor! Zella is the brave and curious type- she goes right over obstacles, hacks out alone (or with others), and loads right on the trailer. Right now she’s building up her strength under saddle after a long time off/coming to NEER in really rough shape. She’s going well walk/trot and isn’t a typical TB because has more woah than go and does fine with days off. However, she is a boss mare, so can test both on the ground and under saddle, and because of this needs a confident rider/handler, but has no buck/rear/bolt. Once you win her over, she really enjoys brushing and is very sweet/has good ground manners, but she does need somebody willing to work with her on the ground to win her respect. She does require front shoes, but is otherwise low maintenance and an easy keeper for a TB. She’s benefited greatly from chiropractic work, and would do great for an adopter who would like to continue with this and/or learn how to do stretches and long and low work with her. While Zella isn’t the fanciest mover, she makes up for it with a great brain and we think once she’s up to full strength she will make a great trail/all-around pleasure horse walk-trot-canter and could maybe eventually pop a small jump here and there. Zella would not do well in a lesson program as she prefers the trails!
